In 2008 I fulfilled a long held ambition to visit Antarctica. I travelled with an Irish Expedition on a chartered ship with 60 on board. The daily trips out on the zodiacs were highly anticipated and were my favourite opportunities for photography. The ability to get up close to the wildlife was fantastic and as I was pretty much the only serious photographer on board, I usually got to take up the best position on the boats and everyone accommodated me as I directed the boats into the best positions for photography. This image was made near the end of our trip off the Antarctic Peninsula and it was quite common to see Penguins perched on all sizes of ice flows right up to huge bergs which always made us think how they got up there !
