CONTEXT.
I have a holiday home on the shores of Lower Lough Erne in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. I regularly take walks around the lough for exercise a relaxation. When doing so
I am always looking out for potential subjects to photograph. On one such walk I came across this little tree and was immediately drawn to it. I returned on a calm overcast autumn day to create this image. I intended to use a long exposure to smooth out the water and wanted the branches of the tree to remain sharp so a lack of wind was vital in the regard. The mainly overcast conditions created the soft light I prefer to shoot in for my particular style of photography.
MOMENT OF SHOOTING.
The tree sits in the lough approximately 12 metres from the shore.I wanted to include the trees near perfect reflection in my image along with the reeds so it was important to get as close to the tree as possible. I have a pair of Fishermans chest waders which I occasionally use in such circumstances. In this case I was able to get to within a few metres of the tree using my waders. The lough water was just below my waist at the time. My camera was tripod mounted and the exposure was around 60 seconds.
POST PROCESSING.
The edit was relatively straightforward. I cloned out some rocks and twigs from the foreground in order to create a cleaner, less cluttered appearance in the frame. A small amount of dodging and burning was done on the sky to enhance the tonal qualities and emphasise the light breaking through the clouds. I also added a subtle dark gradient from the bottom of the frame up to the bottom third.
If you require anything further please do not hesitate to get in touch.
