One day, on a thick foggy morning, I found a tree standing in the lake. I took it with a long exposure in order to bring a fantastic atmosphere in the scene. However, when you take a 60 seconds exposure, the branches of the tree sway in the wind. So, as a countermeasure, I used a graduated ND filter to expose the lower half of the frame for about 60 seconds and the upper half of the frame for about 3 seconds. To get the image in only one shot, about 3 seconds after the start of exposure, the upper half was hidden by a black plate and moved up and down in small steps so that no boundary would occur. I used Lightroom to make light adjustments.
